Where is Hell?

Many Greek and Hebrew words translated hell in the Bible simply refer to the grave. I think we all know where the grave is situated. The “hell” we are looking for is the location where the wicked will receive their final reward.

You CAN know the answer if you will read the following paragraphs carefully and ask, “What did I just learn,” then allow the Holy Spirit to teach you. It couldn't be simpler.

Most of us can answer the following questions about hell—who, what, when, how—but we cannot all answer the question of where. This is the answer we seek.

(I realize we are all familiar with these passages, but read them again looking for the answer.)

Who/What

Psalms 11:6 tell us what the reward of the wicked will be. Jesus drank the cup for us, but who drinks the cup for those who reject Jesus? What is the cup?

4 ¶ The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD’S throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.
5 The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.
6 Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.

Who/What/When

Malachi 4:1 tells us a day is coming for the burning of the wicked.

1 ¶ For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.

Who/What/When/Where

2 Peter 3:7 tells us that the earth which is now is reserved for the burning of the wicked much the same as the antediluvians were judged and destroyed by a flood.

3 ¶ Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

When/Where

2 Peter 3:10 tell us that the day of the Lord will come and in that day the earth and the works therein will be burned up and shall melt with fervent heat.

9 ¶ The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us–ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

When/Where/Who/What

Revelation 20:9 tells us that the deceived nations, rallied by Satan, will surround the saints on the face of the earth and God's judgment will send fire out of heaven to devour them.

7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.
10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

This next portion happens after the 1000 years also because it depicts a 2nd resurrection of the wicked as Jesus mentioned in John 5:28,29 that there would be two resurrections. One for the righteous and one for the wicked. This scene describes Jesus calling the wicked forth from their graves to stand in the judgment. Their judgment, or sentence, is to be cast into the lake of fire. Or, as stated earlier, the fire will be rained down upon them as they compass the city of the saints on the breadth of the earth.

11 ¶ And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Well, that is all of the verses for now. Did you find the location hell? Did you miss it? Then go back and reread it carefully. The answer is there.

Yes, in the lake of fire. But more specifically, where does the lake of fire burn? I think it can be answered from these scriptures.
