Phil Driscoll Found Guilty Of 3 Counts Of Tax Evasion
A Federal Court jury on Thursday afternoon ruled Grammy-Award winning gospel musician Phil Driscoll guilty on conspiracy to avoid paying income taxes and two counts of income tax evasion. He was found not guilty of one count of income tax evasion.
Driscoll, 58, faces sentencing Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. The maximum he faces is five years on each of three counts - for a maximum of 15 years.
The trial began April 24. The two defendants, he and his wife, did not take the witness stand.
The indictment charged that from 1996 to 2000 the Driscolls did not report more than $1 million in income and evaded paying over $300,000 in taxes.
It was testified that the ministry took in as much as $2.8 million in a year.
Think not that I am going to start posting all the bad church news. Heaven knows we would quickly run out of space.
Phil Driscoll was a fellow Tennesseean and came to our town each year for a concert.
May he be made clean and admit what he needs to admit. If he has sinned before all, he should repent before all. Unfortunately, most men would rather do anything than admit their particular sins.
Sin not only hurts us but dishonors our Heavenly Friend, who is very jealous for his own glory. 2 Samuel 12:14 "Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die."
Though I stuck this here under "Institutional Church News" it appears to me that money is adversely affecting the house church community, as well. God help us if this is so.
