Blacksburg was a little known town in Virginia prior to this week. I happen to drive past it each day in the course of my employment. Blacksburg is now a household word across America and the world.
Some will now seek to make hay about gun control. Some, about mental health care for everyone. Others will highlight the shooting spree as having been inspired by a godless public education system, one without any basis for right and wrong.
Was the shooter a true victim of some sort, himself? Were there Christians in his world who may have let him down or pushed him away? He is certainly responsible before God for his actions - true. I am just wondering today how much we Christians are responsibility whenever we fail to love and care. Would I have shunned him, too?
Years ago, when the apostle considered the sad reality that some had not the knowledge of God - he suggested that believers had seemingly failed them: Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God - I say this to YOUR shame. 1 Corinthians 15:34.
May God have mercy upon us and upon those who grieve. Let us dedicate the uncertain (to us, not Him) remainder of our days to seeking Him and his Kingdom first. Amen.
