These upgrades are security upgrades. Everyday, about 50 people, via automated spambots, attempt to register and leave spam. They are becoming more and more sophisticated and determined, too.
Things may get dicey and some pages may not load for a day or so. You may have to log in manually one time in order to reset your cookies. After that, you shouldn't have to manually log in to post.
