There are a large number of forums here in ye olde Cafe as you may have noticed. The idea is for visitors to find what they are specifically looking for and then to get on with life.
In the past, a forum category was the largest group of forums which could be searched at once. Now, all forums can be searched at once.
A global seach of all forums will take much longer than would a category search or a single forum search so you might try the category or a single forum search first. Confused?
