Eighty-eight of the first one hundred colleges in America were organized to promote the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. John Witherspoon, first President of Princeton University, said, "Cursed be all learning that is contrary to the cross of Christ." In 1754, King's College (now Columbia) advertised that "The Chief thing that is aimed at in this college is to teach and engage children to know God in Jesus Christ." Harvard had a set of Rules and Precepts in 1646, which stated that "Everyone shall consider the main end of his life and study to know God and Jesus Christ which is Eternal Life."
Harvard now has over $11 billion in endowments, but, as early as 1701 a deterioration of the spiritual climate on campus was noted and Yale was established to return to the Christian foundation first laid at Harvard. Yale has nearly $5 billion in endowments today, but has also strayed far from its foundation.
What a lost legacy! What vast amounts of money thrown into the wind. Read and weep, brother and sister.

Dba, Thank you for the reminder of how far we have strayed from godly scriptural roots!
But do you think it is possible to return to such prioritites, not just in colleges but in churches? Do you think that believers who seek to impact their communities for Christ can influence their world for God?
How can our involvement in house churches facilitate such a return?
