Personally, I don't believe that either Calvinism or Arminianism are expressions of scriptural truth but rather reactions against error (which by way of reaction have swung the pendulum off center from the truth of God). Because of Ps.12:6; Proverbs 30:5,6 and I Corinthians 2:13 I believe that all scriptural doctrines will be stated in the pure words of the Lord, need not any added words or the wisdom of men to state them "better" than they have been stated by the Spirit of God in scripture.
Therefore, I propose a new topic "Scripture versus Calvinism and Arminianism".

Hi Bruce,
Obviously, both sides appeal to Scripture and to Scripture alone. Sighhhhhh.
Just a brief inquiry as to the TULIP or 5 points arrangement. Seems like I read that it was the Arminians who came up with their 5 points first. If so, does anyone know what they were and who published them.
Somewhere here I used to have the works of Jacob Arminus in 3 volumes, I think. They turned up missing before I could read very much but I also recall that some guy named Beza was also a key player.
In our little town in TN, in the oldest part of the town, are two small churches on two hill-tops. A Baptist and a Presbyterian church. Interestingly to me is the fact that both adhered to the "doctrines of grace." Granted, their views of the covenant of grace differed with respect to infants.
I believe there were also "reformed Methodists." Early Congregationalists and Episcopalianss, to a degree, were also "reformed."
I cite this info as background material to the discussions which will follow.
