Dear friends, I'm looking for anyone who has sincerly attempted to live the same type of inner life that Brother Lawrence or Frank Laubach lived. I have,(tried that is...) and would relish the opportunity to "compare notes". Thanks, Wadester

With God's Help I live this way every day...though some days God gives me more success than others. In other words...the more I truly trust and truly resign all of me and all of my situations to God and Christ alone...the more success God alone gives me. and when I'm not as faithful...a loving God catches me as I fall...comforts me...lovingly shows me the errors of my ways...and then reminds me loving...like The Hymn says..."Child of weakness...watch and pray...find in Me...your All in All...Jesus paid it all...all to Him I owe...sin had left a crimson stain...He (God and Christ Jesus alone) washed it white as snow.
Another Hymn Song says
Trust and Obey For There's No Other Way To be Happy in Jesus Than to Trust and Obey.

This was posted so long ago- and frankly I don't know who Frank Laubach was but I remember Brother Lawrence's account of his conversion which happened while he was staring at a tree. He suddenly saw all the majesty and creative power of God. It is one of my most favourite conversion stories. For myself I can say that I live in the way of the Spirit- in which one is continually conscious of God's presence, teaching and power. However, it is true that 'some have one gift and some another'. Generally the problem with 'spiritual' people or those who aspire to be saints in the old sense of the word- people of exceptional holiness and Christlikeness like Brother Lawrence- is that they become Christian philosophers. That is they may be like a Ghandi or a Buddha that has Christian beliefs. They have the 'Imitation of Christ' rather than the reality of Christ centredness. Brother Lawrence's 'lifestyle' could be summed up in scripture in John 15 where it speaks of abiding in Christ. This is promised to all believers. The secret of abiding is of course pure faith...

Dear Jacob, the power of a holy life emanates from the human spirit indwelt by God. Most Christians can neither discern, nor even do they know that a soul and spirit are two different things; but to know this spiritually...
1Th 5:23 'Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely, and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the Arrival of our Lord Jesus Christ! 1Th 5:24 The One calling you is faithful, who also will do this.'
The ability to sense between your own spirit and soul is the experiential starting point of a truly spiritual life... I warn you it is a painful process of the Cross.
Watchman Nee and Jessie Penn-Lewis were probably best known for teaching in this area.

Hello Wadester, Well, I like yourself am trying. But I must say my success has been limited. BUt no matter.. I'll keep at it. I have found that reading the spiritual maxims of Fenelon, (available at this website and at Christian Classics Etherial Library) (CCEL)to be very helpful. As I do things, tasks, I try to remember to address God before I start. When I see natural beauty, in my mind I compliment God, example "Love these trees Father. I think trees are some of Your best work". I apply this to manmade things as well. Since God provides the inspiration for their design. If I find that I have done something wrong, I just say to God, "This is all I can expect of myself, being driven by base motives as all men are". "Only by Your grace will I fade away and leave only You to act". Something like that, whatever feels right. Again, Fenelon helps alot in this. I also recommend and myself follow the meditation/method of prayer practiced by Fenelon, Madem Guyon and Miguel Molinos. All of their essiciential writinga are available for free download at CCEL.

Trees, Guyon, her spiritual son and Molinos... Once I was sick and in a dream Madame Jeanne Guyon came to me. With a single kiss to my cheek I was healed... and I was healed when I awoke. I told my 'spiritual' friend and he sneered, 'O, she kissed it better did she?'
Here is a very recent dream, whether or not its appropriate here, what do you think?
In my dream I was standing on a beach. Across the ocean a very small man was dragging, by a rope, a giant Tree. The Tree was so huge that compared to it he was like an ant. When he came to shore we saw in fact that he was a giant; so great that compared to him the men around were like ants and the Tree was out of sight somewhere in the universe. He took his stand on a hill. He wore nothing but a covering of red linen for modesty around the navel. He boomed out with a loud voice, 'Who dares challenge me! Come you cowards and fight!' In his hand he held a simple spear- he had no armour; he needed none. Some men were simply awe struck and others ran in fear. I wanted to fight him but I hid behind a bush...'
I know the interpretation of this dream too, as I believe God revealed it to me: That the Tree was the Tree of Life cut off, in a sense, from mankind, yet it was still very much alive. The giant of giants was the Power of Sin...
