Our community had our first wedding last night!
We celebrated it almost like a baptism. The couple shared what they were there to do, read a scripture and shared what it meant to them and what they meant to each other. They said a very simple "I do", heard the Ephesians charges regarding husbands and wives, were prayed over first by their families then by all those gathered. They signed their certificates and a family Bible together, and that was it. Most everyone was in casual clothes (there will be a more public reception with gowns and all later.)
This particular couple is doing a complete turn-around in their spiritual lives, and are amazing us with the grace of God upon them. A year ago, they were both at a very different place! We prayed for the young lady, that "God would bring her a suitable husband - soon!" and he has, He has!
And interesting to those on this forum, they are taking a stand for "real" family, home fellowship and swearing loyalty only to God and His kingdom.
I'm humbled to see how the Spirit is escalating things in our community!
Blessings! LA

Praise the Lord, say I. I know you are positioned there by the Lord to cheer these two on and along the way, Laurie Ann.
As we look at the young people around us, let us never write any of them off. Turnabouts do occur, just as you have witnessed in this case.
I was just reading this neat quote by J. Gresham Machen, written 60 years ago:
quote:"The most important educational institution," Machen wrote, "is not the pulpit or the school, important as these institutions are; but it is the Christian family. And that institution has to a very large extent ceased to do its work."
