We are a new fellowship struggling with the idea of making our focus in one city, meeting there and serving there or opening up our fellowship to those in multiple but closely located cities and moving around our meetings, having a more broad community. Has anyone else struggled with this and come to some conclusions and successes? Happy to hear both pros and cons from experienced home churches.
We have opened up our fellowship to families in all of the surrounding cities around Mansfield, Ohio. We have families from several local cities including Bellville, Fredericktown, Lucas, and Lexington. We do move our meetings around to the homes in these various cities and have not found it to be a problem. The only down-side is it is hard to create the intimate relationships that are necessary. As a big-picture look, maybe God will add several families over time from various geographical regions. This can provide a natural and Biblical way for other house churches to spring forth from the original one by these families launching out on their own after the original church becomes too large or as God leads. I would not limit your efforts to any region to begin with. If people are willing to drive then go for it.
