Hello saints.People from time to time on the list bemoan the fact that we spend too much
time debating (arguing) and not enough time sharing what's going on in our
families and our meetings. I thought I'd share what my family did last
Sunday. We have three little girls (ages 3.5, 2, and 6 months). We
occassionally meet with David and Carolyn Anderson, Steve and Lois Johnson
(also lurkers on the list, I think), and a few others, but it's about a 90
minute drive each way, so that can be really tough, especially with 3
little ones. The others drive our way occassionally, and we love having
them in our home, but the drive's not any easier for them.
Last Sunday, we were planning on being at home by ourselves, and we've been
trying to have some sort of "meeting" as a family. Some of our times seem
better than others. It's hard to have a deep conversation with the little
ones with us, so we thought we'd try to have more of a story time with them.
We decided to talk about the Israelites reaching the promised land but
refusing to enter after the spies scouted out the land and reported that
there were giants living there whom they could not defeat in battle. This
was a new story for them, and they always like to hear stories (the older
two do). Then we pretended they were Joshua and Caleb and pretended to
scout out our home. We found some grapes upstairs (that my wife had put
there beforehand) and brought those back to Moses and the others. We also
sang a few songs, including one about "Twelve men went to spy on Canaan.
Ten were bad and two were good." I can't remember all of the words, so if
any of you know it, I'd be grateful if you'd pass them along. Finally we
prayed a little. We all had a good time and I think they learned a little.
We do something similar every night before bed (story, pray, sing), but
this was a little more special with the acting out the parts and getting to
eat the grapes.
Just thought I'd share what our family did. I (and many others, I'm sure)
would love to hear about your families/groups.
