Hello! Glad to find this site and its good seeing how so many are being led closer to God's purpose for their families in worship!

Has anyone here discovered some wonderful ways to study scripture with their older teens? We have a number of ideas, but would prefer not to invent from scratch if there is already a good curriculum choice available. We'd love to study into certain topics and follow the Greek/Hebrew to learn original meanings. Or take topics relevant to real-life situations which affect our children's lives in the here and now - and study what Scripture says about it.

Thanks in advance for any leads!

When I was homeschooling mine, I sometimes used storebought curriculum; but always used my Strong's concordance to look up things that didn't seem right because of the author's bias. I can't remember one specific curriculum that was super,in itself. We always went much deeper that the pre-fab courses did. One I remember was "Proverbs for Parenting" I think. Sorry I looked on the book shelf but it has been packed away, so I'm not sure of title & author . "The Narrow Way" for folks 1-99 had some good subjects. We often took a subject and looked up all the words relating to it, used a bible dictionary, maps, etc. to add to the study. Proverbs are very good for teens. Also ask them what they would like to study sometimes. (Not too often though, LOL) If they have friends in public school reading things like the Harry Potter books (guess thats's pre-teens) Study witchcraft, paganism, etc. in the bible. If they want to know why you won't let them hang out with certain teens, study fools, youth, compainions, etc. in Proverbs. Study the prodical son and Samson and the effects of their companions on them. Study marriage and dating! The importance of finding the right mate is so important. Be not unequally yoked. If they want to know why you don't attend First Church down the road, study church leadership roles, study paganism and idolatry, etc. If your at a lost for a subject, use a Thompson Chain reference bible (or something with topics listed )to get an idea of where to start on different subjects, then hit that Strong's hard to find out more. Be sure to teach the children how to look up the Greek and Hebrew meanings in the Strong's so they can check the original meaning and intent of hard verses. Most importantly pray before you start for wisdom to guide them and for their hearts to be open to the word. Let the Holy Spirit teach all of you. Remember your teens are almost adults, study the same things you would study. Even if you get a study booklet that has false ideas in it, use it to prove from the Bible what is right and how to discern truth. Don't forget to study doctrine. Salvation, the kingdom, Lord's supper, Who Jesus is, what he taught, there is so much to learn and so little time.

God Bless, Faith

Cynthia, I am a home church older teen (18). Myself and others in our group are starting up a Bible study. We aren't following any book, except the one written by God. We started last Saturday, and decided on a topic-Ephesians. We purposed to read the first chapter everyday, and write down any verses that trouble us, that don't make sense, or that we like and take comfort in. We don't know yet if this is a good way to get started, but we will find out. But from past experiences, following another book other than the Bible causes me to lose interest. I have yet to see if following only the Bible will prove to keep my interest, but I'll get back to you on this if you want. My email is ferngaz@hotmail.com

An update concerning our Bible study:
Things are going along at an awesome speed! We have went in depth into chapters one and two of Ephesians, and have found out who we are in Christ, what God has done for us, what power we have as Christians, and so much more! Our group (usually about 6-7) has grown together a lot, even though we've only been meeting for about a month!
