Our family was invited to a house church that had been meeting for about a year. We went and loved it. Truly enjoyed the worship. A few weeks later after several meetings with and fellowship meals shared, we were told that we were considered to be "outsiders" and have never been invited back. We are believers who truly love the Lord, in fact my husband has been a minister for 20 years and had been replaced at our last church because of our "family-centered beliefs." We would love to be able to worship this way. We were entirely surprised to encounter exclusivity in a house church. Aren't we to accept one another, believers and followers of God? This experience has made us feel as if we don't belong in either the traditional churches or a house church.

I just now saw your post and I want to tell you I can certainly understand how you, your husband and children must feel after such a disappointing experience with a house church! However, I hope you won't think that all house churches are like the one you encountered! In Christ, there are no "outsiders"!!!! You certainly DO BELONG! "God is faithful by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ OUR Lord." I Cor.1:9

Are you aware of the house church registry on this site? Please check it out to see if there are other house churches in your area. There are many listed as well as many folks who are interested in house churches but are not yet involved with one. Please register yourselves so others in your area can also find you.

I too was a pastor/missionary in the institutional church system. After leaving the "pastorate" it took us almost 23 years to find our way to a house church and we feel like we have come "home" as far as church is concerned! So please continue to seek others with whom you can have fellowship and above all seek communion with Christ and He will certainly guide you in the way He wants you to go!
