We are a small group meeting in homes. No elders. My wife, my oldest daughter & two other regular attending women are the adult females. Lots of kids from infancy to 18. Three guys including myself are the men.
We meet weekly with no set format except we almost always sing, discuss a topic (sometimes from the Bible), pray and eat in that order. We could do things differently, but it usually comes back to this. The kids meet with us and the smallest ones draw or play (not always quietly!)
We've had our share of problems. The hallmark for us is "Jesus is Lord". We "workout our salvation with (maybe) fear and trembling". Others have joined to assert their agendas. When they leave, we are left to sort things out. Politically, socially and denominational backgrounds are varied. Our theology is varied.
We also meet three - four times a year with three other hc's in the Shenandoah Valley from Harrisonburg, New Market and Woodstock areas.

Oh, Shenandoah, I long to hear you, Away, you rolling river. Oh, Shenandoah, I long to hear you, Away, I'm bound away, 'cross the wide Missouri.
I think that tune was popularized by the Brothers Four.
Hi Guy,
What a beautiful description of the body you have provided. Though imperfect, it is perfect in HIM! Praise his name.
Years ago, in the late 60's, there were some house churches in your region. Even a book was written about them: "Barefoot in the Church." As far as I know, they were the first to be documented in the USA. Somewhere around here I have a copy of it.
Btw, I drive an 18 wheeler. Each morning before daylight, I cross paths with 5 or 6 drivers who have a terminal in Staunton. They help me fight off the sleep gremlins with some friendly chatter on the CB.
In the 1700's relatives of mine settled in the area around Staunton, having come on down from PA. Don't get me started on that. LOL.
Correct me if I am mistaken, but wasn't Woodrow Wilson from around those parts as well? Great to hear from that wonderful region, brother. Do visit here when you can.
David, I didn't know you could sing like that LOL ! I could really hear the tune . I spent 62 through 1966 in New Market at the Adventist school there, loved it. Have gone back many times and love it more each time. The Battle of New Market from the civil war in 1863 had a centennial while I was in 10th grade, 1963, parade, commemoration of a memorial site etc, of course being 14 I didn't realize the depth of what was really happening. Now I do. Some years ago when i was in nursing school, I met a patient who was there at that commemoration and was one of the speakers. Interesting discussion with that man. Funny how lives and time crisscross here and there. Anyway, it's nice to know there are God seekers in that area.

Skye - our company operates a facility just down the road from New Market. We recall staying at the Johnny Appleseed hotel there in New Market. Our facility which I did the construction drawings is just outside Timberville and is the wastewater treatment facility for Timberville/Broadway and the poultry processors there. They have some very biologically heavy wastewater loads, but we can handle it just fine. Then we store the treated water and irrigate croplands around there with some of it. Most of it goes into the Shenandoah - by State decree. Our design was to keep all of it out of the river, but they want to keep the river polluted. As well as we treat the water, it is best used on the land. We read about that in the Bible, btw. DanG ChicagoArea
