Hello and peace to all. We are "just Christians" in Nashville, Tennessee, and glad to get to know y'all.
We are seeking anyone like-minded to study with my husband Al and me and our children.
Our beliefs are very much in agreement with articles at www.the-churchofchrist.org. A plurality of elders, no hiring committees, brethren who preach and serve as each is able, acapella singing, meeting on the Lord's Day for the Lord's supper, no creed but the Bible, deep study of the Word cover to cover.
Some questions we've had some great discussions about:
What is the history of the Bible as we have it today in the English language?
What is scriptural baptism, and what is its role in salvation?
When is the Christian added to Jesus' church?
What is modest dress for Christian sisters and brothers?
How can Christian married couples today commit to endure together "'til death do us part?"
How can Christian parents show the world they belong to Christ through how they raise their children?
What is God's heart as shown in His word on the subject of divorce?
Is there in the Word of God an exception clause allowing remarriage after divorce?
Is there hope of reuniting and forgiveness for the couple that divorced, even if one or both parties has remarried?
Is using contraceptives sinful?
What does God's Word say about abortion?
Should Christian parents consider bearing children a blessing?
Should a Christian woman work outside the home?
What does God's Word say about usury? Is usury practiced today? Should Christians get involved in it?
What about insurance? Is it scriptural?
Should Christians have credit cards?
How does a Christian love the sinner while condemning the sin?
Is there hope for the homosexual to turn away from sin and be received into God's family?
Should a Christian serve on jury duty?
Should a Christian participate in military service?
Should a Christian be involved in politics?
What is the Bible pattern for serving the communion?
What is an elder in the church? Who can be an elder and what are the biblical qualifications?
What is the relationship of the Christian to the local government of his country and what are the duties required of him or her?
If a law in a country is voluntary but everyone has always complied with the law out of custom, what ought the Christian to do, especially if complying would possibly mean compromise of his beliefs? -------------------
We can arrange for immediate baptism of those who wish to obey the gospel. That would be those who have heard the gospel of Jesus Christ, who believe he is the son of God, who was crucified, died, and was buried, and who rose again, and how we also ought to become dead to sin and bury the old man of sin in the watery grave of baptism and rise up in newness of life. Romans 6:4
My husband baptized me as soon as he learned I wanted to be baptized. It isn't the baptismal waters themselves that save us, it is the answer of a good conscience toward God, as the Word says. Faith without works is dead, but works alone do not save me. It is a paradox. Faith without obedience is dead. It is possible to fall away, once we have come to know the truth. It is possible to quench the spirit. It is a terrible thing to fall into the hand of the living God. Yet, he desires that none perish but have everlasting life. I just want to use each moment I have on earth to praise Him and tell everyone what a loving Father He is! We want to please him, so we obey him. If we are faithful to the end, he will give us a crown of life. Those who heard Peter preach at Pentecost heard him preach the gospel of Christ. Then they said, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" Peter said, repent and be baptized every one of you for the remission (forgiveness) of sins..." And so they were baptized and added to the church. Who's church? Jesus' church, the body of Christians everywhere. Peace to you all. --------------------------
That was a long intro.
I am very interested in church history and homeschooling and art. I'm studying about martyr William Tyndale and the story of the Bible in English today. Inspiring story!
A little about me... I love cats and the color lavender. I like organic spicy food. I don't like coffee at all. Make mine a peppermint tea. Thanks.
I admire your strong convictions. Some of those study topics sound very interesting. The world is in need of people who will stand true to the needle and not compromise.
I know you to be a person who wishes to do the right thing. But like most of us when we are new to things we don't know all the rules. In the cafe, we've been asked to limit posts to two per day per person. It's intended to helps those with less time keep pace so they can participate as well.
Thanks! Look forward to hearing more from you--at a moderate rate, of course.

Hi Cat! I loved your introduction, particularly about your desire to build on the foundation of the apostles and prophets as described in the Book of Acts. I believe the vast majority of HC folks are going back to the "blueprints" to understand from the scriptures what church is, what God expects, etc. You pointed out the Gospel as Peter preached it. Bingo! As you already know, out of 66 books in the Bible, only one, Acts, tells us the New Testament Gospel of Jesus Christ as preached by the apostles and how we are to obey it. I appreciate your heart and look forward to your contributions in the future. May the Lord Jesus bless your socks off today!
