It's a pleasure to be here with so many cyberfriends! From reading these pages I have now figured out what has been wrong with my 20-plus years in organized religion, in seminary and out, in one denomination and out, and even other religions altogether ... and I thank you for the insight.
Some of the issues dicussed here are quite common no matter what religion. I see now that changing religions wasn't helping because there were the same problems to deal with: the priesthoods, the buildings/campaigns, the rules, but never the spirit, the same sorts of politics and power/control issues, the same blind obedience to tradition, but never an adherence to the basic principles. Just as what goes on in Muslim mosques these days bears little resemblance to the religion of Islam, so too the Christians, many Buddhists, many Hindus ...
At any rate, I am grateful to discover that so many others have shared the same types of experiences.
Well, talk about wilderness ... I'm out here in the tropics! Even so, I will begin to look around and see if there is anyone else in this fine megalopis wishing to consider the idea of a home church. Anyone interested and in the Bangkok area may contact me at wilgus@yahoo.com.
God's blessings to all of us-
Nick Wilgus
