A little over 4 years ago we left the institutional church (sou' baptist).

First I remember the desert experience. All our friends were IC church members, so it was impossible for them to understand why we left. Of course they think we were just being rebellious, unsubmissive to authority etc (can y'all relate to that?) This was a very lonely time, isolated, away from the body. But I can see now how important this was to show that Christ can and will be with us through all things, and how the Holy Spirit can comfort us during trials.

After about a year we decided to go back to the IC..longing for the fellowship and programs (maybe a little like the israelites longing for the things of Egypt?) BUT ...the new wine won't fit in the old wineskin..and the ideas of freedom are not too welcome in the IC.

However, the Lord is faithful and good and through perseverance we now go to a gathering of saints, meeting house to house in a small town near us.

The saints are taught as the spirit leads. The music is wonderful, with everyone bringing freely of their talents. We learn to function as a family and not an organization. No one is grasping for power, money or position. We are content with the Lord being the focus and head.

So, I encourage those of you who are new to homechurch. If it's what the Lord wants you to do, then stay with it. Don't be discouraged by setbacks or desert experiences.

The Lord will build his church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. Amen?

God Bless,

Jerry F.

Thanks for those words of encouragement. Your group sounds just like what we are praying and longing for. In His time, and in the meantime, our family continues to be deprogrammed and our minds renewed according to His Word...Whew, His truth really does set us free (gee, finally got that after all these years!)
Lord Bless your fellowship,
Jo in Mo

Wow - your posting really hit home for me! I had an encounter with some "Northern Baptists"(Southern Baptists here in the Pacific Northwest) that really left me feeling discouraged and confused. One of the respondents mentioned the word "deprogrammed" and I have to confess, that is what I feel like I am being set free from - man's programs instead of God's.

I am glad that I had this experience because it showed me what Jesus was up against with the Pharisees - it made me awaken to see that a lot of what we call worship is nothing more than token gestures, double standards and manmade manipulations!!! I am heartened to see that I am not alone in my quest for a genuine fellowship.

Dear Bentknee,
Welcome to the forum! Hope you find many with similar desires here! (Desires to know Christ better than ever before, to know (truly know) other believers better than ever before, and then to love with the love of Christ as we never have before!

Have you checked out the registry of home churches and folks interested in such gatherings at http://www.housechurch.org/registry ??

Check out your state and then find listings there by city or town. And please, register yourself so that others also can contact you!

Hope this may be a new beginning for you!

Your brother in Christ,
