Hi there, My name's Tom and I live in the far north of Scotland. I recently read Wolfgang Simson's 'Houses that change the world' and found it utterly fascinating. It's literally one of the most powerful books I've ever read in my entire life (and I've read literally hundreds)! My spirit just so much agreed with virtually all that I read. The message is so clear, so well put over, so wonderfully discerning - and, I believe, so very biblical. I also reviewed the book for a UK Christian magazine which is now in print.

I really long to find others in my area who have similar thoughts about 'church' to me - and I'm quite thrilled to come across this web-site, along with the www.house2house.tv site. I suppose I'm a bit disappointed that there are not more people from the UK contributing to the site, but I guess these things take time. I'd love for anyone to get in touch with me, even just to say 'hi' - and I will definately try to reply.

Meantime, I have one or two queries about the whole 'house church' set-up. I guess it's easy to idealise the issue, to think it will work smoothly and perfectly, without the problems of larger church structures. But surely in practise, many of the same problems are still very likely to emerge - such as dominant leadership, people falling out, disagreement over who's house to have different meetings in, who decides what, who is accepted as a true Christian brother/sister, etc etc. I mean, is it really gonna work out so much better than the denominational churches we're all so used to? I would love to think it would, but I do wonder sometimes. And what if there just aren't any 'prophets', 'apostles' or whatever in the immediate or distant area - how do things operate without them? What if someone thinks they have a particular gifting, and others don't? I'd love to know your discerning thoughts on this. What I do know is that the whole house church style, as so wonderfully advocated by Wolfagang Simson, really strikes a most exciting chord in my heart and spirit.

thank you so much, and every blessing to you in Christ,

love,

tom

I have become part of a home church recently and I would say don't worry about the organization.

Just invite some Christian friends over for dinner one day. Then invite them over next week. And the week after. There's your home church.

It's not about joining a group. It's about fellowship.

my 2cents.

Hi Tom,
My name is Dave and I live in SW Scotland, in Ayrshire to be precise. Like you, I have recently read Wolgang Simson's book and was very impressed. In fact I enthused about it to everyone around me. He seemed to be articulating a lot of things that I had been feeling about church for a long time.

Also like you, I had been exploring some of the websites on housechurches and had been frustrated by the lack of interest/input from the UK. It is really interesting therefore to know that someone else in Scotland has read and been so blessed/blown away by this book.

I don't know if you have heard of Gene Edwards, but he is apparently "big" in the house church scene in the US. There is a website - I think just the name Gene Edwards will get you there. There are a few people in Edinburgh in touch with this gentleman and he is coming to Edinburgh for a conference in early March. I can get you the details if you are interested - they are to be produced in the near future. It would appear that not everyone involved in house churches in the States is totally happy with Gene Edwards' approach. As you say, this scene is probably vulnerable to "control freaks", diasgreements etc. However, what is new where church is concerned?!

I must say that I share a lot of your reservations about the whole concept/structure and so on, but I still feel a very big "YES" to the overall approach taken by Wolfgang Simson.

Anyway, it is good to know that there is some kind of kindred spirit in Scotland, even if in the "far north". I'd love to dialogue with you further on this matter, perhaps even to chat over the phone. In the meantime, I'll look forward to noting your thoughts on-line.

With love in the Lord,
Dave.

Hi David and Tom, and all,

This is another David, from across the big blue pond.

Our Lord is surely at work in your minds and in your lives. We long to hear more from you as time goes on. I can tell that you two (and Psostre!) have been doing a lot of thinking. :-D

So, I want you to post your specific questions one at a time in the relevant places on this forum. And your comments, of course.

That's an order ...

... well actually, just a friendly invitation.

Most folks come through and read without participating. Ratio of readers to writers is about 50 to 1.

So, this is to thank you in advance for the excellent content you will be providing for us all.

warm blessings in Christ Jesus, the Lamb of God,

Hello all!!
It is amazing how I found this forum and truely a Devine Intervention!!!
My daily scripture mentioned something Madame Guyon had said and I really wanted to
research it further and found some of her writtings on this web site--------after
reading (WOW some great things!!!)I wanted to know WHO provided such wonderful things
for me to sink my spiritual teeth into???
I am so very pleased to have found this area and others who are searching for fellowship
with others who have come to the "season" in life that is only satisfied with Jesus and HIS
life and love.
I must digest all of this and come back again............I am truly in awe of how
my Lord takes care of us!!!
Please feel free to contact me........and I am going to the bookstore tomorrow and
purchasing the book by Wolfgan Simson.......
I am very aware of Gene Edwards and began my Christian walk studying some of his teachings
over 32 years ago!!!!
My homepage (needs updated but) shares some about "what I am about" and my family.

The Lord Bless you all with His presence and love..........

I think the answer to some of your worries is to concentrate on Jesus Christ and His word. I know that sound obvious, but we have found that working through Acts and then Romans has taught us so much that other issues have just melted away. He is the head and we are trying to let Him be. I agree with the rest of the responses. Just concentrate on Christ as the Head. Remember when you fell in love and got married-you never did let the thought of disagreements or the like get in your way. You were head over heels in love and that is where He wants us to be. Just my two cents worth. Love Judy in Canada

Tom, I'm like yourself, in the U.K. looking forward to when 'it' catches on here.
I've been preparing for networking by making a web site on homechurch.
God has given me faith that it will.
We left a large 'successful' N.F.I. 3 year old church plant last October, after reading Wolfgang's book. We had been trying to do all the 'right' things, bringing our neighbours to church e.t.c. Trouble is they never seemed to want to go back, even though many people love it, and there was a time that we did also. God is giving us the confidence in Him, that He can use even us, (me, my husband and kids, in homechurch. It fills in the gaps, answes many questions and confusions, we have had through the years.
Maybe the site may help you. Please keep in touch. There is also a British brother who has started an e-list last week on this subject, if you are interested. (email me).
Here's the web linl (My email addy is in there)

sorry about above message from me when I was unregistered. It's got some typing errors. So I thought I'll register to put that right. How silly can I get. A lot more actually.
Hope that more will share on this board as time goes by,
love in Jesus, Marion
