When I was a kid for years I attended a home fellowship where people prayed and then went around the room speaking in tongues and interpreting... also having a word of prophesy.

I think I want to do this again. Any thoughts?

A Home fellowship is a good Idea I think, especially if there are not any good churches around you. Praying in tongues is a gift and way the Holy Spirit enables us to pray for situations that we do not know how.

On the other hand, a meeting where all you do is pray in the spirit and prophesy doesn't do much to make disciples and to reach the world with the Gospel. There has to be a balance. Praying and doing. We can't use the gifts as an excuse to be lazy and not serve. And we can't neglect the gifts because they are given to edify and build up.

Whatever you do , don't give up and become complacent.

Just a quick question...

the speaking in tongues in Acts was speaking in actual foreign languages, for the spreading of the Gospel. The tongues you are speaking of... are they actual recognizable foreign languages or emotion-charged babblings?

Umm.. one more question.

does the use of these tongues bring in the lost from the outside world, or do you use it as a proof of your "annointing" or salvation?

I mean you no disrespect, I am curious.

May the Lord bless his children!
