Alexander says: Amazing how so many people have so different views and opinions concerning these matters. Sad also, especially when it would mean that we couldn't serve God in UNITY.
I believe that in old times (OT) eldership was a personal status that everyone achieved from a certain age up. I also believe that it is safe to say that these 'elderly people' were revered in ways uncommon to our present society. I believe that the reason that Scripture does not describe qualifications for these 'presbuteros', is because there was no question at all about who they were and what they did or how their lives ougth to be. At least among the Jews...

I think Brother Alexander has struck a very important cord here. Romans 11:18 says Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. I believe that this is precisely what the church has done ( historically ) and has been very successful in destroying it Jewish roots. Hence we end up with a very paganized church ( Spiritual Babylon) overcome by confusion and lacking understanding. Romans 3:1-2 says: What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit [is there] of circumcision? Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God. I don't doubt that Brother Pauls excellence in the Scriptures was not facilitated by his experience as a Pharisee. Be cause the early church fathers ( gentile ) refused to acknowledge their "spiritual elders" (i.e the Jewish converts/ Apostles being the chief/ also known as ANTI-SEMITISM ) , she ( the church ) has greatly erred. There is something to be said concerning the wisdom attained simply by natural maturity and age. Let's discuss it!!!
His servant,
Bro. Wendall
