Ahaz was 20 years old when he became king and he reigned for 16 years. His son Hezekiah was 25 years old when he became king. Let's say Hezekiah was born when Ahaz was 20. So Hezekiah was 16 years old when Ahaz died. So who's leading Judah in those 9 years before he became king?

The bible says that after King Ahaz died that his son Hezekiah reigned in his stead (2 Kings 16:20). It doesn't mention anything about there being a 9 year gap between the two reigns. It just says that Ahaz died and Hezekiah reigned in his stead. Sounds to me like one quit and the other took over. Like what usually happened in a royal lineage.

My answer would be that there wasn't any 9 year gap. There was no gap between leadership of Judah between these 2 reigning kings, it seems like to me.

Hi Kim,
If there's no 9 year gap then Ahaz must have Hezekiah when he's 11. Is it possible?

Chubbena,

Sorry I didn't reply in the private message that I sent to you about this issue. Didn't see this post until after I sent it.

I was trying to find some of the verses where you got some of your information from, but couldn't seem to find them. Do you have those references to those verses where you get all that information like the ages of Ahaz and Hezekiah? If you do, I would appreciate it. I did try and look for them but all I was able to come up with was the one verse I mentioned.

All I know is that there is no discrepancies in the bible. Usually if something doesn't make sense to us there is a reason for it. Apparently Hezekiah did assume reign immediately after his father. For those things that I can not come to terms with in my understanding I fall back on that bible verse that says not to lean to our understanding.

But if you could help me find the those bible verses, I could maybe take a closer look at it for you.

Many times when a person asks a question I look to the motiviation for which that question is asked. I'm wondering if perchance you may be having a struggle with doubt? Concerning the Word? This is something that is very common and happens to a lot of people.

No offensive intended here.

Hello Kim,
Good to have you back...
2 Chronicles 28:1 Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years.
2 Chronicles 29:1 Hezekiah was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-nine years.
Why I asked the question? I'm just curious...
