I recently dismayed a respectable member of the body by saying, "I don't believe in education anymore." When he asked, 'What do you believe in? Ignorance?' I replied, "No, I believe in modeling and training!
I thought about that tonight as I was making up lunches for my family members for tomorrow. Funny story about modeling:
A few years ago we stayed with another family for several months while we figured out the next step for our lives.
During that time, the wife was daily using leftovers from the previous night's dinner to make lunch for her beloved. She wasn't a morning person, but she dragged herself out of bed to send him off with a healthy, hearty lunch.
When we got our own place, I proceeded to do the same: instead of sandwiches or eating out, my husband ate a meal prepared out of healthy home/slow-cooked food and packed in correlle bowls with lids. As my son, and then my daughter started working elsewhere, they got lunches the same way.
One day I thanked my friend for showing me how to do that. I always thought lunch had to be a sandwich.
She said, "I don't do that... or maybe I did for a little while but I gave it up."
Ironically, her "modeling" to me made it a habit for me, while her attempt to motivate herself to "do well" on her own eventually petered out.
Don't underestimate the power of demonstrating "The Way to Live". It may have more impact than you can imagine!

Thus the expression: Don't tell me - show me. Another: Preach Christ wherever you go - use words when possible.
The Scripture does not say that whoever desires to be an overseer (that's 'bishop' with no caps, please) desires as good office but rather a good work. That work is essentially modeling.
