I am often asked the question. It blows my mind actually...where the Lord's people have gotten too these days. When I tell someone I participate in a group of believers who meet in homes, they ask me, "What's the name?" I always say there is no name...we're the church of "your town/city here." I am under the impression that there is only one church. The bible seems to make that clear to me. I am a member of the one and only church as I see it. A house divided is surely to fall...and that seems to be the trend. So I'll never understand where people get off believing and supporting denomonations just because they exist or the views each holds. Every part of Christianity is so contemporary these days. What's going on?
When we ask people to join us in worship they are understandably cautious. Therefore, one of their first questions is "What denomination?" If they are not familiar with your denominational beliefs then their next question is usually, "What do you believe?" It's fair for them to ask both questions.
When you speak of "one church" many people will be led to think of the Catholic Church, which is considered the "universal" church by many. In fact, the Methodist church has just signed the document on faith signed earlier by the Catholic and Lutheran churches. This act mends a long-standing rift between these "churches."
Understand this verse:
Isaiah 4
1 In that day seven women will take hold of one man and say, "We will eat our own food and provide our own clothes; only let us be called by your name. Take away our disgrace!"

Possibly relevant to this thread in that it is an example of online work of the Lord in my Church life. The following link is an invitation to anyone who is interested in reading the chatting between one woman of 23 from Tanzania and one man of 48 from Canada and how the sharing of our personal dreams and trials got us ready to move into the formation of a class of Spiritual Hygiene 101. You can read how this came about at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/classic/A13728035 It is quite long but also quite live and intense at part. We are carrying on the class on the site of Taking It Global which is serving 140,000 members of the youth in 250 countries. Hope it blesses you,
