Discern Newsletter

Test all things; hold fast what is good.1 Thessalonians 5:21 (NKJV)

But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their faculties trained by practice to distinguish good from evil. Hebrews 5:14 (RSV)

As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand. - Josh Billings

DISCERN began as a newsletter which I wrote for my brother and sister to distribute at their Bible College. I was concerned at the blatantly false teachings which have been quickly proliferating through the Body of Christ, and wanted to encourage people to critically examine new teachings and trends in the light of Scripture.

Deception of course, is nothing new. It is as old as the serpent's lie in the Garden of Eden. The Bible warns us though, that in the last days, deception will increase, in it's frequency and subtlety. It will be accompanied by lying signs and wonders. At a time when discernment and even common sense seems to be at an all-time low, the Church must be reminded of it's task to guard and preserve the truth. Individual believers must dedicate themselves to testing all things, holding on to what is good and true, and exposing error in all it's chameleon hues.

We ignore the warnings of Scripture at our own peril. I hope the articles posted here will stimulate your thinking, and will help you in the task of training your senses to discern good and evil. And, I hope that you will take what you have learned and pass it along to others. I will add new articles as time permits, so check back. - John Green
