House Church Talk - Article on Purpose Driven

David and others on this thread,

Since I have not actually read this book, I cannot comment on it
specifically. I am usually concerned about any market driven aspects of
Christian ministry, however.

The article Vince posted was very interesting, as far as I read it. We need
to really be aware of worldly influences that exist in the church.

But sometimes I see reactions that are worse in the end. Like so many
Christians even in HC who feel no sense of purpose at all. Some are into
just "hanging out" and living in the fear that what we are doing might even
grow beyond our little "intimate" group, or develop the least degree of
structure

Moses had a mission, Ezra, Nehemiah, John the Baptist, Jesus and Paul all
were very consumed with their sense of God's purpose in their earthly
existence. If we take the author of the article's advice to enter a period
of prayer, Bible study and quiet reflection, I believe the Lord can bring us
to a balanced position where we can fulfill His purpose HIS WAY.

I like Bruce's comments:

>>When we view Ephesians 3:8-12, "Purpose Revealing Church" or "Purpose
>>Manifesting Church" might be better!

Amen!

Dan B.

> Hello

> A good friend of mine tipped me off about this article. I will say it is
long and I know some cannot read it due to time but I just wanted to put it
on here for those who may be interested in doing so. I have read it twice.
It takes about thirty minutes to read.

> Rick Warren's Purpose Driven Church and Purpose Driven Life seem fairly
innocuous upon cursory examination. His books have been at the top of the
nation's best sellers list for months. Churches accross America are jumping
on the 40-Day bandwagon, incorporating the Purpose Driven model into their
church structure. On the surface "purpose" dosen't seem like such a bad
idea. God has a "purpose" for every life great or small...
