Sean, I couldn't agree with you more! Over the past three years, or so, I've been getting rid of my entire library. There are but a few books that I have kept. As you mentioned, I, too, have held onto some study help books such as Strong's Concordance, a Bible dictionary, some historical books and but a few others. This from a fellow who had at least three book cases FULL of books. I have had numerous "study" Bibles, as well. I, too, have discovered the best thing there is is the pure leading of the Holy Spirit. Truly He does show us all things, if we will but listen. I have given most of my books away. I have sold some and still have some listed for sell. I have found the more you get away from any type of man's pursuasion in regards to the Word, the better you are. It is then that we must rely or begin to learn to rely on the Holy Spirit. It's amazing what all thw scripture that is taken out of context. As you said, Sean, the Holy Spirit will without a doubt and
without fail lead us. I, too, do some deeper word studying when prompted to do so. Here recently, I have been listening to the Word on cassette. It's amazing the things I have discovered just listening to it!!! God truly is so good!

Just wanted to add my two cents worth. Have a great day everyone!

Raymond

1 John 2:27 says, "As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him."

I've had a Ryrie Study Bible for over 20 years but more and more, I'm leaning away from any kind of helps. Don't get me wrong, I have a Strongs, Vines and so forth, but they are separate books that I refer to only when I believe the Lord is leading me to dig deeper. Our walk with Christ is about a relationship and it's too easy to slide into learning about God with notes, cross references, helps, maps, etc. The more important question is what is God revealing to you in scripture, not what has He revealed to others. It's all about a relationship.

Romans 10:17 says, "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ."

That word of Christ is the spoken, revealed word of Christ , not the written word of Christ . Our focus in reading the written word of Christ should be to hear the spoken word of Christ to us in it.

Just my two cents,
SeanK

Subject: House Church Talk - Annotated Bible Recommendation

What annotated bible recommendation would you give. Someone asked me to
recommend one. This person is beginning to grow in the faith. Years ago
I used Dake, but I wouldn't particularly recommend that. Are there
annotated bibles that aren't King James?

Thanks much!
