House Church Talk - Re: House Church Talk Digest, Vol 3, Issue 134

I would like to see understanding. JL, Steve Atkerson and AFAIK, none of
the others from that system fellowship on the hc lists. I believe JL posted
to explain his position only; he has not engaged in fellowship here and
whether he continues or not remains to be seen.

I think it is a legitimate question if women, or others besides the elders
are told to not participate on these lists. Another question: Do the
people involved in these practices have a goal of seeing them implemented in
all house churches?

It is not a matter of a "nine year old article." When I first saw the post
about the SC conference, something didn't seem right. So I researched the
three people who were putting on the conference and found that Jonathan
Lindvall and Steve Atkerson held these views. As one person mentioned, it
looked like a trap and I am trap-shy after seeing so many get caught and
wounded in traps.

The concept that some Christians are better than others, and that because
they engage in certain outward practices, is a dangerous one. To compete to
determine how we can more accurate follow the letter of the law, and seek to
bring others under this law, rather than receiving God's unmerited grace and
offering it to others - we have different worldviews here.

Legalsists see themselves as "Glatt Kosher" when rather they are Not Kosher.
Some of you can figure that out, if not, I'll explain it in another post.
:)

views, are in darkness and he is seeking to bring us into the light? JL, if
you have visited many types of house churches, do you believe that they are operating
in an ungodly manner?

> There is so much elitism among Christians. The idea that we need to
compete with the world on the world's terms and beat them at their own game
has no biblical basis. I homeschool one of my children, and elitism is
rampant in the homeschool community. I would think we would do everything
we can not to encourage it.

> David, your post concerning the unfit status of the biblical Patriarchs
makes sense. Maybe the Lord chooses to use those who would never be
considered worthy. I would never have picked the people the Lord picked to
do his work, but, God didn't ask my opinion :) Moses was divorced and
remarried.  Isaac didn't do too good a job at managing sibling rivalry;
Abraham was henpecked, Jacob's sons attempted murder; even the prophet
Samuel and King David had some rotten kids. Noah and Lot, well, we won't
even go there. I feel like a better parent already.

of you who believe women should be silent in the church refuse to fellowship
with us on lists like this one because women are participating? Are women
from these groups forbidden to participate on these sorts of lists or
discussion boards, kept from where they could encounter something contrary
to what this theology?From cliffsilliman at juno.com Sat May 8 03:34:02 2004
