Why People Distrust the "Church"

Jerry Falwell Junior just gave the enemies of God another occassion to blaspheme. "Whatever God he worships - we don’t want it and we don’t need it," they say to themselves.

He has also offended every one of his 100,000 students and his alumni as well. Now, like 97% of those who get caught, he will begin to tap-dance around the clock. And to blame others, of course.

We are not here to bash the institutional church - that would take forever and we would all be drained. Besides, several "leaders" in the "organic church movement" have also been caught in sexual misconduct and cover-ups. Still we must pause now and then to consider what is going on in this world where each of us is called to serve.

An old Indian Chief supposedly remarked: "There is a black dog and a white dog within each of us. The one we feed will eventually gain control." That's you and that's me. There are no exceptions.

The words of Jesus to his disciples still echo down through the centuries: "Watch and pray."

May God have mercy upon US.

    • Is it simply distrust or is something else at play here? 

      There are two things we can count on (cf Rev 18):

      1) God will call His people out of Babylon

      2) The sins of Babylon will be exposed

      The only questions we need to answer is 1) What constitutes Babylon, and 2) What are its sins? 

      This is study in and of itself.
