Standing with Our Brethren in Kakuma Refugee Camp: Faith Amid Hunger and Hope for Sustainable Solutions

image_transcoder.php?o=sys_images_editor&h=71&dpx=1&t=1753942407‍Earlier this year, I had the privilege of fellowshipping with house church leaders in Kakuma Refugee Camp—a moment marked by organic worship, vibrant with the presence of the Holy Spirit. These gatherings, though simple in form, reflected a deep hunger for God, even as physical hunger looms heavily over our brethren today.

Kakuma is home to thousands of refugees who have fled war, persecution, and hardship in their home countries. Many of them have turned to Christ, forming vibrant fellowships and becoming pillars of disciple-making movements within the camp. However, recent changes in humanitarian aid—particularly food ration cuts by USAID—have struck them hard.

Today, survival in Kakuma has become an uphill battle. Food portions have been drastically reduced, and the basics that many of us take for granted are now luxuries to them. Our brothers and sisters—leaders, mothers, children—are enduring days with little or nothing to eat. The pain is real, the burden heavy, and the cries for daily bread have become louder.

Earlier this year, we began planning a poultry farming initiative for the house church leaders and their families—a sustainable project that would generate food and income, restoring dignity and reducing dependency. Sadly, due to financial constraints, we have not been able to launch this life-giving project.

Still, we remain hopeful.

We are holding on to the promises of God. We are believing Him for both the manna of today and the provision of land for tomorrow—the daily bread and the long-term solution.

This is a call to all who read:

Will you join us in prayer?

Will you stand with us in faith?

Will you consider partnering with us to provide both immediate relief and support long-term transformation?

Kakuma may be a forgotten place in the eyes of many, but not in the eyes of God. And not in ours.

Let love be seen in action. Let the Church rise and answer the cry of her own.

“If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?” – James 2:16
